Dena Sheybani

#DenaSheybani, a 35-year-old snowboard instructor, rock climber, and graphic designer, was arrested in connection with a failed bomb attack scenario in Shiraz. She was arrested while she was on a trip to Gheshm Island with her sister, and during her arrest, the security forces confiscated some of her personal belongings, including her laptop and cell phone (her sisters’ as well). Her forced confessions, along with those of four other young male prisoners, were aired on national television.

On December 22, 2022, Tasnim, a news agency linked to the Revolutionary Guards, IRGC, released a video in which a group of Shiraz-based athletes, including Dena Sheybani, Amirarsalan Mahdavi, Hesam Moosavi, Eshragh Najafabadi, and Mohammad Khiveh, were shown confessing under duress to attempting to bomb the city. The video IRIB broadcast depicted the athletes blindfolded, in handcuffs, and released after being subjected to prolonged periods of physical and psychological abuse and pressure on their families. The video was riddled with inconsistencies, and it was clear that the accusations against the athletes were fabricated by security forces as part of a campaign to implicate them in a crime falsely.

In the forced confession video, #DenaSheybani was introduced as the person in charge of advertising and testing the operation!

Update: Dena was released on bail on December 21.

It seems that a new scenario is being implemented by Islamic Republic security services. Even after being released from prison, the detainees are still under the control and pressure of these institutions and are forced to implement their scenarios to suppress the protests. After being released from prison with a bail of 4 billion tomans, Dena published a video on her Instagram page in regular clothes without the mandatory hijab and repeated the same forced confessions broadcasted on TV. The same happened with several prisoners who were released on bail from prison recently.

Sample Letter:

To Whom It May Concern,

Since September 16th, after the murder of a 22-year-old woman, Mahsa Amini, by the so-called morality police, Iranians have been protesting for freedom, human rights, minority rights, and women’s right to self-expression.

The Islamic Republic of Iran has responded with a lethal reaction, killing hundreds of its citizens nationwide with military artillery and arresting thousands.

The ruthless suppression of Iranian demonstrators has reached entirely new heights.

Two detained protesters, Mohsen Shekari and Majid Reza Rahnavard, were put to death on December 8th and 12th, respectively, without going through a fair trial, having access to independent counsel, or having the option to ask for an appeal.

The IR regime is about to execute hundreds of people.

Members of the German parliament, such as Ye-One Rhie, Carlos Kasper, and Martin Diedenhofen, were the first to decide to be political sponsors of several arrested protestors who were given death sentences. Politicians’ backing is vital. When elected officials publicly defend a political prisoner, more attention is attracted to their fate. The media cover their activism, and the attention serves to safeguard innocent prisoners.

We need your help, and we urge you to act quickly to stop this massacre. Your actions can include, but are not limited to, the following:

– Announce your political sponsorship or advocate for the prisoners in imminent danger [1], [2].

– Publicly call on all nations to recall their ambassadors from Tehran and to remove all the regime’s diplomats.

– Declare all regime associates, including the IRGC, and the Supreme Leader Khamenei, as terrorist organizations and impose swift sanctions against them.

– Demand that UN specialists keep a close eye on the situation and urge the authorities to take extraordinary measures to halt executions.

I appreciate you taking the time to read this important, sensitive message and offer your support to save lives and the values Iranians are fighting for.

Sincerely,
